The scene for lovers of neo-folk, ambient, neo-classical… is a lot bigger than one should expect at the first hand. When I was dragged into this kind of music around one and a half year ago I was excited about all these new bands I was about to "discover", now, some time later I'm still very excited about the scene. I still can't wait to hear new things. And some time ago I got this first debut album of Vittorio Vandelli I didn't know what to think about it because his mainband Ataraxia isn't much for me. But, how can one be surprised! I wasn't impressed a lot by its first spin, but I listened to it more and I can't say anything except for things like "wow". And, so it seems, not only Iron Maiden was inspired by Coleridge's "The Rhyme Of The Ancient Mariner", so Vittorio Vandelli draw the highest form of poetry into an album full of dreamy music. Which could best be described as a golden myriad of neo-classical, light industrial, ambient and folk. Together with singer Francesca Nicoli he was able to lay down some of the most interesting tracks that I ever heard in the aforementioned genres. It is really hard to describe or classify the music and I guess that it isn't that important at all - for the imaginary world that has been created along with the music speaks for itself in this matter. The acoustic Spanish guitar has got a major role in the music and therefore it sounds a little exotic as well - but still the extraordinary feeling that this album comes forth with doesn't give a lot much space to think about anything else than that same imaginary world. I don't know what to write more about this masterpiece. I know it is absolutely not done to say that one should experience it by him or herself. But that is still the best way to get yourself dragged into some of the most beautiful soundscapes and music that I heard in the last months. This is a must-have for lovers of everything I said above… ![]() ![]()
